SOLAR DECATHLON CHINA

Beijing and Datong, China

The inaugural Solar Decathlon China competition was co-sponsored by the People's Republic of China National Energy Administration and the U.S. Department of Energy and hosted by Peking University in Beijing.   This competition, held in Datong, China, was the first of its kind in Asia and attracted 230,000 visitors over ten days.  Like the Solar Decathlon competition held in the US, the competition challenged universities to design and build sustainable, solar powered houses.  The competition’s participants included 22 teams from 35 universities in 13 countries.  While living in China for 7 months, Brittany served as the competition manager of the event, overseeing development and implementation of all competition related matters including competition rules, instrumentation and monitoring, scoring, building code compliance, safety, document review and competition site development. Based in Beijing at Peking University and later on the competition site in Datong, she served as the main point of contact and liaison for the 22 international teams.
